Laser Cutting Application: Leather Cutting and Marking

This process is applicable to any company that cuts or decorates leather, including luggage and apparel manufacturers, retail locations and even knife and leather holsters.

This application is interesting, given that the end user (a shoe maker) uses the laser to not only decorate the leather segments of the shoes, but in fact cuts them out to shape. This cutting process requires at least 40watts and processing at low speeds. The dpi setting can be either 300 or 400.

Since, leather tends to smoke a great deal and because there are fumes associated with the process, it is imperative that the customer uses a filtered exhaust system. The fume removal is enhanced by using the head exhaust and adjusting the air assist nozzle for a high flow rate.
