Engraving Supplies
Once you purchase your engraving machine, you will need several types
of engraving supplies, depending on your application, to help you engrave
your finished product. Most engravers need an array of auxiliary engraving
supplies to get the job done. For example, you’ll need various types
of tapes and adhesives to help you hold down the product while engraving,
and also so that you can apply the plates to finished trophies or plaques.
Simple applications, like diamond-scratching jewelry, for example, do
not require many additional engraving supplies, except for the machine
and the actual diamond cutter. Other applications do require that you
have several important engraving supplies on hand.
- To create contrast on plaques or signs
When you engrave directly into solid brass, there is no contrast except
for the depth of the brass engraving itself. To help give contrast,
you can do a variety of things, like fill the engraved space with
engraver’s enamel paint, or apply a chemical like Gravoxide (see below
for information) to blacken the engraved area. Engravacolor sticks
also work well with plastics or base metals. (see below for more information)
- Holding down your material and affixing your product
Gravograph offers several mechanical ways to hold down
material on Gravograph machines, like self-centering vice, t-slot
table, vacuum tables, etc. There are times however that a simple piece
of double-sided tape will do the job. To help you, we have an array
of tapes and adhesives that
will help you hold down your product, available in rubber, foam, and
paper as well as interior and exterior grade. Don’t forget that you’ll
need tapes and adhesives (Gravo-Bond is a great choice, see below)
if you need to affix plates to finished products, for example affixing
a brass engraved plate to a trophy or plaque.
