Getting your business started is easy.

All you have to do is make people aware of your engraving service. It's not so much selling as it is informing.

Let everyone know you're in the business.
You'd be surprised how many leads can be generated through your friends and relatives. Everyone knows someone in business who needs professionally engraved signs and other items - especially when you show them high quality samples of your work.

Stop by your local merchants.
Comment on the engraved signs in their stores. Show them your samples. Chances are good that they'll need more signs, and they will order them from you!

Put an inexpensive ad in the Yellow Pages.
List yourself with your phone number under "Engraving" and "Signs." People will call you with business.

Show gift stores your display.
A display of your engraved items will be well received by dealers, especially if they can share in the profit. After all, where else would such items be available?

Holiday Gift Business.
Let people know you can supply personalized gifts like desk sets, door plates and luggage tags with their names on them for graduation, birthdays, promotions, Mother's Day, etc. The list is endless!

Contact local sports leagues and schools.
Inform them that you can supply engraved trophies.

Attend Swap Meets and Flea Markets.
Demonstrate your engraving capabilities and display personalized special items for sale. This is a great area to practice your sales story.

Visit corporations and auto dealers.
Let them know you can supply engraved plaques and trophies for their salesmen. This alone can be a huge business.

Success Finds You!

Do you know those tags that cattle wear? Would you believe that there is a fellow in Southern Illinois who started engraving them -then advertised his services in cattle magazines. Today he is making a fortune! Or what about those two boys in Los Angeles who engraved personalized license plate frames and sold them on weekends at swap meets and flea markets and rock concerts. They made $1,000 a weekend and put themselves through college - easily. Then there's the man who set up displays in local stores and runs a major company today. And the young woman who supplies engraved signs to buildings. She makes more in one year then some people do in 10.

The successes in engraving are unlimited. The point is that the engraving business supplies all businesses. You start out by "poking around." Then, as one engraver said after a while, "success finds you." From there on, it's easy - just a matter of repeating that success with the same type of customers. Pretty soon, you're where you want to be!
